Running in the Rain? Should I?

It's monsoon season again here in the Philippines which officially kicked off last week. The whole country will be wet again after the long dry spell in the past few months. This time is getting a humid or sometimes a bit cooler. A lot of us will be indoor again. I admit that I'm this the hibernation season of many of us, it's the best time to cuddle in bed with your warm blanket or just to be with someone with. If it's raining cats and dogs outside; it's time to slow down, sit on a couch and start sipping on a hot chocolate drink or having bowl of hot creamy soup. Watching the raindrops falling in the ground. At this time, people who are in love to outdoor activities becomes grueling.

Sunday morning, the most anticipated for me since it's a long run day for me, part of my running training. As I checked outside, it's all wet, wet, and slippery. I keep on looking outside and decided not to run outdoor and rather do it indoor. As indoor, in a enclosed environment which you could not really enjoy the "chi" of running. So, I decided to head off to the gym where people are just showing their cuteness while they are not cute in fact. My body is really craving for the intense sports that I fell in love. I really want to run. Game plan is that I'll do a short run in the treadmill which I call "dreaded mill" since I makes you easily exhausted and no proper control for you pace. You can't freely flow you body and the impact on the legs are different when you hit on the road. I just ran for ten minutes. Afterwards, I'd continue to do some stationary spinning routine with few tracks from the spinning classes. If I'm in the gym , I would rather go spinning than running in treadmill. To cap off my gym session, I did my yoga stretch or practice. Had some sun salutation, warrior poses and twist routine and no heavy asanas for that day.

I went home and it's drizzling. I really hate when it's wet going outdoor by we don't have any choice, all we need to keep on moving on and dip our feet in wet road. Walking alone in solitary self in the midst of the rain, I felt differently. There is something in the rain made my emotions to shift awkwardly. I didn't feel the joy rain.

Now, it's rainy season. Running would be hard to schedule since weather is changing constantly so all we need is to adjust and be smart for the running training. We have to make use the time properly for the run or any activities that we need to do. I really love outdoors rather enjoying the confines of my box. I would easily remember my childhood memories back in the province, if there's rain. It's time get out and enjoy the rain, feel the raindrops falling in your body and afterwards a warm soup is waiting to fill one's hungry soul. Going outdoor when it's raining it's adding more thrill to childhood rain games and it refreshes my soul. But now, when it rain, just stay indoor and cuddle up rather. It's really different when you're a grown up already. Being outdoor feels differently, you begin to enjoy the life and gift of freedom.

As the song goes "rainy days and Mondays always makes me sad." It's rainy days again. Umbrella and jacket fashion mode again. Time to stay indoor to be dry. Though is a bit not comfortable, uneasy to move and irritable. Just strive be happy and cheer up by having warm cup of hot chocolate or a big bowl of creamy soup since rainy days is just a sign there's that there's the sun beyond it for a sunny day later on. Indeed if it rains, it pours, just make up the best time in it.

  1. I feel for you Lee. Been there. As of now, I am contented with my cross-training: jumping ropes.
